HPCSA: AU0000663

Melanie Naude obtained a B. Speech Pathology and Audiology from Stellenbosch University in 1997.  She was offered a permanent position as a speech therapist-audiologist at Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town where she worked alongside world renowned professionals for two years.  In 1999 she decided to specialise in audiology and accepted the position as Audiologist at The Ear Institute,  Bellville.  She obtained excellent training in diagnostic audiology and accurate hearing instrument fittings during her two year term at The Ear Institute.

In 2003 she relocated with her husband, JP, to Port Elizabeth.  Melanie was offered the position of Audiologist in private practice working for well-known Port Elizabeth Ear Nose and Throat specialist, Dr. Francois Retief at Life St. George’s Hospital.  She worked for Dr. Retief for nearly 14 years, during which her skills in diagnostic hearing assessment and hearing instrument fitting developed further.  In 2005 she obtained Additional Licensing in Cochlear Implants from Stellenbosch University.  Together with Dr. Retief, Melanie started the Port Elizabeth Cochlear Implant Unit.  Melanie also has a special interest in Bone Anchored Hearing Aids (BAHA).

Melanie feels passionate about accurate diagnostic hearing testing and precise, customised hearing instrument fittings based on every individual‘s unique lifestyle, budget and communication needs.

Jean-Pierre (JP) Naude holds a B.Economics Honours and Masters degrees from the University of Stellenbosch, having specialised in human resources management and labour relations.  After completing a two year internship he registered with the HPCSA as an industrial psychologist and worked in this field for multinational companies for 14 years.

He decided on a career change, wanting to make a positive difference in peoples’ lives, as well as in the community he lives and works in.  He completed the Hearing Aid Acousticians’ course at the University of Pretoria, passing with distinction.  He opened his practice in April 2011.

He believes that the treatment of hearing loss is a personal and long-term relationship with the hearing healthcare provider that can only succeed with the highest level of customer service.   To this end, his scope of practice and area of interest is the adult hearing system (clients older than 12 years).  Therefore, his focus is on the correct identification and treatment of hearing loss through a full diagnostic test battery and not just a basic screening hearing test. He has established good working relationships with the ENT fraternity in PE and regularly refers clients, if required.
